The Hitler Brothers are a pair of thugs who carve a swastika into the foreheads of their victims, and Callahan bears an unfinished one of his own.
Callahan first meets their name in a newspaper headline he sleeps under in New York in late October 1975. They beat both Jewish and Black victims, and police blame them for more than three dozen assaults and two killings across the five boroughs over at least eight years. One news report tells of the founder of Home, a shelter for the homeless and addicted, found stabbed in a doorway near it and bearing their sign.
