Slow Mutants are misshapen creatures of the dark that give off a faint, sickly glow.
Deep beneath the rock they stand beside the track with starving, idiot faces, watching Roland and Jake pass on their handcar. They grab at the boy, put rocks across the rails and close in a little at a time, and Roland reckons they hate whole creatures of the light. Even so, their faces show no anger, only what looks like a dim, idiot regret.
