North Central Positronics is a vanished company of the Old Ones' age, a maker of robots and thinking machines whose name survives stamped on Mid-World's relics, first seen in The Gunslinger.
North Central Positronics turns up first in The Gunslinger, as a maker's name stamped on an old machine still running at a desert way station. It is a company of the ancient world, part of the age of the Great Old Ones thousands of years before Roland's time, and it specialized in robotics and thinking machines. Mid-World has moved on, its feudal remnants living among futuristic ruins, and the company survives only in its leavings: nameplates, serial numbers, and the occasional machine that still walks or pumps or speaks. Wherever the old world's technology lingers, the odds are fair that this name is engraved on it somewhere.
