Jake Chambers
Jake Chambers is a boy Roland finds at a desert way station: polite, self-possessed, and carrying only hazy memories of another life in a city of tall towers.
When the gunslinger collapses from sunstroke at the abandoned stable, Jake wets him down, gives him water in a dented tin can and feeds him dried jerky. He wears patched blue jeans and a rough brown shirt, cannot remember where he came from, and says no one brought him there. He is afraid of the cellar and of being left to starve, and when the gunslinger says he must come along, he sets out with him toward the mountains, a waterbag over his shoulders.
