Eyebolt Canyon is a short, steep-walled box canyon near Hambry, whose far end holds a thinny that sends a low, sinister warble over the town when the wind blows from the west.
Susan Delgado describes the thinny to a visiting young Roland on the road above Hambry. To her it resembles a slow peat fire or a swamp of scummy green water, with mist rising off it in shapes like long arms ending in hands. Folk say every thinny grows, though slowly. Drovers drag brush to the canyon mouth, and the smoke quiets a noise that upsets cattle and sleep.
