Arthur Eld is the mythic High King of All-World in Mid-World legend, the King Arthur of Roland's world, from whose line the gunslingers of Gilead descend and to whom its oldest relics and oaths return.
Arthur Eld stands at the root of Mid-World legend in The Dark Tower series, invoked from the early books and given his fullest telling in Wizard and Glass, the fourth. He is remembered as the High King of All-World in the ancient days, a warrior of the White who rode a white stallion, carried the great sword Excalibur, and united the land after an age of chaos. He is Mid-World's equivalent of King Arthur in the legends of our own world. The gunslingers of Gilead, the knights of Roland's fallen civilization, trace their lineage to him, and Roland Deschain descends from his line. Songs, siguls, and oaths in his name survive everywhere the old world's memory endures.
