Teft is a grizzled older bridgeman of Bridge Four in The Way of Kings, gruff, private, and quietly capable, one of the first to back Kaladin's efforts to keep the crew alive.
Teft is a bridgeman of Bridge Four. A grizzled older Alethi with salted hair, a short gray beard, and a soldier's bearing he does not explain, he is serving in Highprince Sadeas's bridge crews when Kaladin arrives, and he is among the first to lend the new bridgeleader a hand, grumbling the whole way. Teft is gruff by policy, claiming only a low threshold for stupidity, and private by instinct: he asks no questions about other men's pasts and offers nothing of his own. He swears colorfully by Kelek and the Horneaters, knows drill and discipline suspiciously well for a bridgeman, and offers his age as proof of exactly one skill, which is staying alive.
