Sarene
A Teoish noblewoman trained in politics, negotiation, and the sword, who arrives in the Arelish city of Kae under a betrothal contract and sets about learning a court that does not know what to make of her.
Sarene is a noblewoman of Teod in Brandon Sanderson's novel Elantris, tall and blond and trained in political strategy, negotiation, intelligence gathering, and the sword. She sails to the Arelish city of Kae under a betrothal contract, arriving in a kingdom she has never set foot in and a court she has to learn from scratch. She reads a room quickly, and she is willing to look foolish while she does it, playing the harmless foreign girl in the throne room and taking in everything said around her. Beneath the composure she is homesick and less certain than she appears, and she knows that her strength and her directness set her apart from the people she means to win over. She is stubborn, compassionate, and quick to move against arrangements she judges unjust.
