Pattern is the spren Shallan has named, a shape of endlessly twisting black lines that lifts off the deck as a ball or ripples through wood and paper, speaking in a buzz that sets him vibrating.
Shallan notes that he links ever more complex thoughts and grasps abstractions easily, yet eating strikes him as terrible destruction, and his first memory is of being with her among many plants. He hums when pleased and praises good lies, which he calls true lies. To Shallan he is one of the rare spren able to hold a real conversation, though Jasnah calls his kind liespren, a name they seem to dislike.
