Ol' White-hair is a man Lift misses and describes as crazy as a box full of minks. Wyndle recalls him as the one who got himself deliberately swallowed by a Marabethian greashell, and Lift agrees that he is, though she prefers to pretend he never got eaten. He winked at her as he jumped into the creature's gaping maw, which shocked the crowd. By her account he held that a person cannot be crass so long as they are talking about art, at which point they are being elegant, and that this is why it is fine to hang pictures of naked ladies in a palace.
