The Final Empire is the Lord Ruler's thousand-year state on Scadrial in Mistborn: a land of falling ash, night mists, noble Great Houses, enslaved skaa, and the watchful obligators and Inquisitors of the Steel Ministry.
The Final Empire is the world-spanning state of Scadrial ruled by the Lord Ruler, the setting and title of the first Mistborn novel. It has stood for a thousand years under a single immortal emperor, whom the church proclaims the Sliver of Infinity, God made flesh. Ash falls from the sky across its dominances, the sun rises red, and at night the mists cover the land, feared by common folk who bar their doors against them. Society is split in two: the nobility, held to descend from the men who supported the Lord Ruler's rise, keep land, wealth, and legal privilege, while the skaa labor on plantations and in city slums as property in all but name. The Steel Ministry's obligators watch commerce and belief alike, and its Inquisitors, with steel spikes driven through their eyes, hunt those who defy the Lord Ruler.
