Azir is a great nation of southwestern Roshar, part of the world of the Stormlight Archive from The Way of Kings onward. Its people, the Azish, are dark-skinned Makabaki, and their state is the closest thing the west has to an empire. Azir is ruled with the aid of a vast bureaucracy of viziers, scribes, and clerks; government by form, petition, and copied report is the national art, and the rest of Roshar jokes that nothing happens in Azir until it has been filed in triplicate.
