An Accountability of Virtue is an Alethi romance novel in which the heroine Wema is caught between two Brightlords. Sterling is a simple officer, well regarded, of gentle touch and no particular means. Vadam holds an endowment of land upon the highprince's grace and can therefore provide, which is the choice Wema's uncle undeviatingly favors. The prose runs to safehands tucked to breasts, comely locks, and shame and longing twisted together not unlike two threads winding in a loom. The ardent Ellista finds the whole account shocking, having been certain Wema would favor one Brightlord over the other. A sequel hands much the same problem to Wema's mousy sister, who draws attention at court and must choose among a naval officer, a Thaylen banker, and the king's Wit.
