Amphitheater

The amphitheater is a small public space in Yeddaw, a trench city in the nation of Tashikk on Roshar, appearing in Edgedancer, a novella of the Stormlight Archive. It sits in the city's immigrant quarter, where a wide alleyway has rows of stone seats cut into its sides, forming a rough half circle that is broken in the middle by the passage itself. The result looks like a theater made almost by accident, carved from the same rock as the rest of Yeddaw, whose streets are trenches cut downward into the ground. Old men and women in shiquas, the wrapped garments common to the region, gather on the benches to talk through the day and watch children play in the alleyway below. The amphitheater stands along the approach to one of the quarter's orphanages, and life flows past it on foot all day.
