Alethkar

Alethkar is the largest and most warlike of the Vorin kingdoms of Roshar, the homeland of most central characters in The Way of Kings. Its people, the Alethi, divide society by eye color: lighteyes rule and hold land, while darkeyes farm, trade, and fill the ranks of the armies. For centuries the kingdom was ten princedoms feuding under rival highprinces, until Gavilar Kholin united them by conquest and took a crown. His assassination on the night of a treaty celebration stuns the young kingdom: his son Elhokar inherits the throne, the highprinces swear the Vengeance Pact, and the strength of Alethkar marches east to the Shattered Plains to make war on the Parshendi. War sits at the center of Alethi culture, and its faith teaches that those who die in battle join the Almighty's armies in the afterlife.
