A large headland reaching south from Essos into the Summer Sea, once the seat of Valyria.
The Valyrian Peninsula is a large headland reaching south out of Essos into the Summer Sea, southeast of the Free Cities and west of Slaver's Bay. It once held Valyria itself, capital of the Freehold. Its southern third was shattered in the volcanic cataclysm remembered as the Doom, some four hundred years before the War of the Five Kings, and what survives of that end of it is a scatter of islands ringed by the smouldering waters men call the Smoking Sea. Most of the peninsula stands empty now, in the shadow of the Fourteen Fires.
