Theon Greyjoy is a son of Balon Greyjoy, held at Winterfell as Lord Eddard Stark's ward and hostage since Balon's rebellion nine years ago, a lean, dark young man quick to laugh at anything.
At the beheading of a Night's Watch deserter it is Theon Greyjoy who brings forth the greatsword Ice, and when the head rolls to his feet he kicks it away with a grin. He jokes his way through the ride home, calls the dead direwolf in the snow a freak, and draws his blade to be rid of her pups until Robb Stark tells him to put it away.
