Sunspear
Sunspear is the seat of House Nymeros Martell in Dorne, the southern principality of Westeros ruled by princes rather than lords, held by Prince Doran Martell in A Song of Ice and Fire.
At the far southeastern tip of Westeros, where the deserts of Dorne meet the sea, stands Sunspear, seat of House Nymeros Martell, part of the world of A Song of Ice and Fire from A Game of Thrones onward. From Sunspear the Martells rule Dorne not as lords but as princes, a style kept from the days when Nymeria, the warrior queen who crossed the sea with ten thousand ships, joined her Rhoynar people to the house by marriage. Dorne stands apart from the other kingdoms in blood, law, and custom, the one land the dragons of the Conquest never subdued, and its pride in that separateness is old and deep. The ruling Prince of Dorne in the present generation is Doran Martell, and the sun-and-spear of his house flies over the castle that gives the seat its name.
