Rhaenyra Targaryen is a Targaryen princess of old, the daughter whom King Viserys I means to follow him on the Iron Throne, and a rival for the crown to her younger brother Aegon II.
Their quarrel becomes the war that singers name the Dance of the Dragons. Both claimants perish in it before her son Aegon III, the Dragonbane, takes the throne. Stannis Baratheon counts her among the traitors who paid with their lives, a king's daughter and mother of two kings condemned, as he tells it, for reaching for her brother's crown.
