The Red Waste is a trackless wilderness of stone, sand and red clay, where travellers find only bitter, shrinking pools and a dead city of crumbling white walls.
It is dry, empty country of low hills and wind-scoured plains, where the rivers stand bone dry and horses live on tough brown devilgrass. Daenerys crosses it with her people, following a comet, and sends riders ahead who report only sand, rock and thorny plants running south to a bleak shore on the poison water. Wolves of the red waste are carved on the outer wall of Qarth.
