King Qhored I Hoare, called Qhored the Cruel in the Kingdom of the Reach, is reckoned among the greatest kings the Iron Islands ever had, though some hold that he came of House Greyiron or House Blacktyde rather than House Hoare. Under his reign the Ironborn stood at their height, holding land from Bear Island to the Arbor, and it could be said that his writ ran wherever men could smell salt water or hear the crash of waves. Men abandoned their homes for fear of his reavers, and those who stayed paid tribute. He died at ninety, after seventy-five years on the seat.
