Qarth
An ancient port city on the southern coast of Essos, standing at the Jade Gates between the Summer Sea and the Jade Sea.
Qarth is an ancient port city on the southern coast of Essos, described in A Clash of Kings and sometimes called the Queen of Cities. It stands on the Jade Gates, the passage linking the Summer Sea to the Jade Sea. Its position makes it the gateway between Westeros, the Free Cities and Slaver's Bay on one hand and Asshai, the Shadow Lands and Yi Ti on the other, and it has been called the centre of the world. Four great roads run out from it: west to Qarkash, northwest to Vaes Qosar and Vaes Tolorro, east to Asabhad, and south by the Sand Road through the Bone Mountains. Three walls ring the city, thirty, forty and fifty feet high, carved in turn with animals, with war and with lovemaking, and Lomas Longstrider counted them among the nine wonders made by man. Within stand coloured buildings, slim towers and fountains wrought as griffins, dragons and manticores.
