Merrett Frey

Merrett Frey is the ninth child of Lord Walder Frey of the Twins, and his history is set out in A Storm of Swords. He grew up in a crowded, quarrelsome castle where his father encouraged his many children to scheme against one another. Large and handy with a sword, he seemed to have the makings of a knight and went to squire for Lord Sumner Crakehall, serving alongside Jaime Lannister and bullying the other squires until he tried it on Jaime. He fared badly in Lord Sumner's campaign against the Kingswood Brotherhood: he caught a pox from a whore and spread it through the camp, then was taken by the outlaw Wenda the White Fawn, who branded her white fawn on his backside before he was ransomed. In his first battle after that a mace caught him on the head and left him with pains and megrims that never eased, which put knighthood out of reach and turned him to drink.
