When Aegon Targaryen invaded Westeros, King Mern IX Gardener joined King Loren I Lannister of the Rock, and between them they raised the largest army Westeros had ever seen. It met the Targaryens at the Field of Fire, where Aegon and his sisters Rhaenys and Visenya took to the air on Meraxes, Vhagar and Balerion the Black Dread. Mern and his sons died there, and he is counted the last King of the Reach.
