Maelys Blackfyre

Maelys Blackfyre, called Maelys the Monstrous, was a descendant of Daemon I Blackfyre, most likely his grandson, and The World of Ice and Fire records his rise. He grew up in exile in Essos and made his living by the sword. He was grotesquely built, with a huge torso and arms, and from his neck sprouted a second head no bigger than a child's fist, which men explained by saying he had devoured his twin in the womb. He was inhumanly strong, reckoned able to kill a horse with a single blow. He took command of the Golden Company from his cousin Daemon. In 258 AC he gathered with eight other outlaws at the Tree of Crowns in the Disputed Lands and bound them into the alliance called the Band of Nine, each sworn to win the others a realm. They took and sacked Tyrosh and seized the Stepstones, and Maelys styled himself King Maelys I Blackfyre and named Westeros his birthright.
