Some say he was a bastard born to Florys the Fox or to Rowan Gold-Tree, daughters of Garth Greenhand, and that he cheated Garth by passing himself off as one of his many sons to claim an inheritance that was never his. Others put him centuries before the Andals came to Westeros and make him an Andal who crossed the sea early. Every version agrees he was exceptionally cunning, and House Lannister traces its founding to him.
