Kingsguard
The Kingsguard are the king's own guard, seven knights in white cloaks who take no wives and have no children, living only to serve him.
Old Nan calls the Kingsguard the best swords in the realm, and Bran Stark knows the old names by heart: Ser Arthur Dayne, Prince Aemon the Dragonknight, Ser Ryam Redwyne, Serwyn of the Mirror Shield, Gerold Hightower and Barristan the Bold.
Two of the order ride north with King Robert. Ser Boros is bald and jowly, while Ser Meryn has drooping eyes and a rust-colored beard. Ser Jaime Lannister belongs to the order too, and of the three he looks the most like a hero out of the songs.
