Kevan Lannister
Ser Kevan Lannister is Lord Tywin's younger brother and steadiest hand in A Song of Ice and Fire, a plain, shrewd knight who manages much of the westerlands' business and serves his house without ambition of his own.
Wherever Lord Tywin Lannister is at work in A Game of Thrones, his brother Ser Kevan is usually somewhere close, seeing that the work gets done. Kevan Lannister is the eldest of Tywin's younger brothers, a thickset, balding, plain-spoken knight without his brother's chill or his brother's name for ruthlessness. What he has instead is steadiness: he manages much of the daily business of Casterly Rock and the westerlands, gives counsel worth hearing, and carries out his brother's decisions without needing them explained twice. Even those who love no Lannister grant that Kevan is no fool. He is loyal to his house above all things, an affectionate husband and father, and content, as few men in Westeros are, to stand in another man's shadow.
