Jory Cassel is the captain of Lord Eddard Stark's household guard at Winterfell, a man quick with a sword who rides out at his lord's side.
When Eddard beheads a Night's Watch deserter, Jory holds the gloves, and when the boys find a dead direwolf in the snow he is among the first to reach them, blade already drawn. He takes the beast for a sign, and Eddard means to send him south with an escort to meet the king's party on the road.
