Janos Slynt

Janos Slynt is the commander of the City Watch of King's Landing, the gold cloaks. He came to the post from command of the Iron Gate and has made it pay, taking bribes and selling promotions until a great many of his men hand over part of their wages to him. King Robert has known of the corruption and kept him on, judging that whoever replaced him might prove worse. Portly, stout and jowly, built like a keg, Slynt is pompous and sycophantic, given to speaking of himself in the third person as though he were a man of great consequence, and he attaches himself to whoever holds power.
