Jaehaerys I Targaryen is the fourth Targaryen king of Westeros, called the Conciliator and the Old King, whose reign of more than fifty years of peace, law, and roadbuilding is chronicled in Fire and Blood.
Fourth of the Targaryen kings to sit the Iron Throne, Jaehaerys I Targaryen is remembered across A Song of Ice and Fire as the Conciliator and the Old King, and his long reign is chronicled in Fire and Blood, the history of his house. Coming to the crown young in the year 48 after the Conquest, with his mother Alyssa Velaryon at first as regent, he rules for more than half a century, longer than any other king of his line. Where kings before him govern by fire, Jaehaerys governs by patience: he makes peace with the Faith of the Seven, reforms the laws of the realm, and builds the kingsroad and other great roads that knit the Seven Kingdoms together. At his side through it all is his sister and queen, Alysanne, his closest counselor and partner in rule.
