House Gardener

House Gardener of Highgarden was the royal house of the Reach, and The World of Ice and Fire records its long line. Its arms were a green hand on white. The line was founded thousands of years ago by Garth the Gardener, son of Garth Greenhand, from whom half the houses of the Reach claim descent, and it was the Gardeners who built Highgarden and ruled from it century upon century. Among their kings were Garth VII the Goldhand, whose long and prosperous reign was called the Golden Reign; Mern II the Mason, who raised a new curtain wall about Highgarden; the three Sage Kings, Garth IX, Merle I the Meek and Gwayne V, the last of these the first Gardener born into the Faith of the Seven; and Gyles III, under whom the castle stood at the height of its power. The house ended with Mern IX, last King of the Reach, whose line was extinguished at the Field of Fire.
