Harmund I Hoare belonged to a line of Hoare kings whom the Drowned Men opposed, for their tolerance of the Faith of the Seven, their distaste for reaving and their encouragement of trade. He was the first king of the Iron Islands who could read, and took pleasure in it. His byname came of the welcome he gave merchants and travellers at his seat on Great Wyk.
