Garth Greenhand, also called Garth Greenhair and Garth the Green, was a High King of the First Men in the Dawn Age, and he belongs more to legend than to history. The tales say he led the First Men over the Arm of Dorne into Westeros, or that he was already there and alone when they came, or that he was a god wearing a man's shape who wanted blood before he would grant a harvest. Every version agrees that he taught men to farm. He is claimed as forefather by more houses than any other man in Westeros, chief among them the Gardener kings of the Reach, who sat the Oakenseat he is said to have planted. The maesters of the Citadel deny most of it.
