The Free Folk are those whom the black brothers of the Night's Watch call wildlings and range north to fight, though this is the name they give themselves.
Osha, a captive at Winterfell, calls herself one of the free folk, born beyond the Wall into a line of women born there before her, and says her people remember. Craster uses the same name when he tells Lord Commander Mormont that he serves no man, and he scoffs at Mance Rayder's claim to be King-beyond-the-Wall, asking what use free folk have for any king.
