Daemon Targaryen is the ambitious, hot-tempered younger brother of King Viserys I, a prince who bears the sword Dark Sister, a gift of the Old King, and rides the red dragon Caraxes.
Born to Prince Baelon the Brave and Princess Alyssa, he earns his spurs at sixteen. Put in command of the City Watch, he arms his men, clads them in black ringmail and gives them the long golden cloaks they take their name from, though the justice he deals out in the city's lanes is brutal. His first marriage, to the Lady of Runestone, brings him no joy, for he finds the Vale dull.
