Castamere is the seat of the proud House Reyne, not far from the Crag, a place of gold mines and a shattered castle that stands as a warning to the enemies of Casterly Rock.
Tywin Lannister wipes out the Reynes and the Tarbecks of Tarbeck Hall in his early youth, and the singers make a gloomy song of the fall. When Lord Farman of Faircastle grows truculent, Tywin sends him no letter, only a man with a lute to play that song, and it is enough. In the war with the north, the Greatjon seizes the Castamere gold mines.
