The blood red Targaryen dragon known as the Blood Wyrm, hatched in the Dragonpit and counted the fiercest of his brood.
Caraxes was a Targaryen dragon, blood red and long necked, and known to the realm as the Blood Wyrm. He was kept as a young dragon in the Dragonpit at King's Landing, where he was reckoned the fiercest of his brood, and Prince Aemon Targaryen, eldest son of King Jaehaerys I, claimed him in 72 AC. Aemon flew him against a Dornish fleet off the stormlands and later to Tarth against the Myrish. He was afterwards the mount of Prince Daemon Targaryen, who carried him across the narrow sea into a private war for the Stepstones and wore a crown there. Those who saw Caraxes called him quick, clever and ill tempered, and said he liked to spit fire.
