Brynden Tully

Ser Brynden Tully, called the Blackfish, is an anointed knight of House Tully and the younger brother of Lord Hoster Tully of Riverrun. He squired for a lord of House Darry, was knighted at his coming of age, and made his name in the War of the Ninepenny Kings fighting beside knights such as Ser Barristan Selmy. He came home to Riverrun a hero, then fell out bitterly with Hoster over his refusal to wed a girl of House Redwyne, and it was that quarrel that gave him his byname. When his niece Lysa married into the Vale he went with her, and he holds the Bloody Gate. Tall and lean, his hair gone grey from the auburn of his house, he has a lined and weathered face, bushy brows above bright blue eyes, and a cloak clasp wrought in the shape of a black fish. He takes the words of his house to heart and aims to be dutiful and just.
