Brandon of the Bloody Blade was a son of Garth Greenhand, the High King of the First Men, and some tales make him the earliest known ancestor of House Stark. He is remembered for ridding the Reach of its giants and for waging war on the Children of the Forest. One story holds that he killed so many of them at a body of water called the Blue Lake that it was known as the Red Lake afterward.
