The ninth Targaryen king, a pious and pacific man who wished to be a septon, wore a circlet of flowers in place of a crown and fasted for other men's sins.
Baelor I Targaryen, ninth king of his line, was the youngest son of Aegon III and a septon in all but name long before he was a king. He wished to take holy vows. His father refused him and married him to his sister Daena instead, a match Baelor obeyed and never consummated. He wore a septon's plain white robe in place of royal cloth and a circlet of woven flowers in place of a crown, carried The Seven-Pointed Star wherever he went, and fasted often, sometimes for the sins of other men. The smallfolk loved him for it and named him Baelor the Blessed. Most of his lords did not. The Great Sept of Baelor in King's Landing carries his name.
