Arthur Dayne

Ser Arthur Dayne, called the Sword of the Morning, was a knight of House Dayne and a sworn brother of the Kingsguard of Aerys II Targaryen, and he is named in A Game of Thrones. A second son of a Lord Dayne, brother to Ashara and Allyria and uncle to Edric Dayne, he learned arms at Starfall and was judged worthy to carry Dawn, the ancestral greatsword of his house. Many held him the most chivalrous warrior in the Seven Kingdoms and the noblest knight since Prince Aemon the Dragonknight. Principled and dutiful, he was the closest friend and constant companion of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. In the campaign against the Kingswood Brotherhood he let the Smiling Knight fetch a fresh blade when his own was ruined, then finished the duel. In the lists he beat Rhaegar at the tourney held for Prince Viserys's birth, and broke twelve lances against him at Storm's End.
