Arthur Dayne is the knight known as the Sword of the Morning, a sworn brother of the Kingsguard in the days of the Targaryen kings.
At Winterfell the maids repeat soldiers' tales that call him the most dangerous of King Aerys's seven sworn guards and say young Ned Stark slew him in single combat. The same whispers have Ned carrying the knight's sword back to his beautiful sister, the Lady Ashara Dayne, at Starfall on the Summer Sea. Bran counts him among the legendary white knights, beside Barristan the Bold and the White Bull.
