The Age of Heroes is the legendary era of Westeros that begins when the First Men make the Pact with the forest children, bringing the Dawn Age to a close.
Maester Luwin places it ahead of the Long Night and the founding of the Seven Kingdoms. Many great houses look back to it: the Lannisters claim descent from Lann the Clever, a legendary trickster of that time, and the Greyjoys claim the Grey King as their forebear. Its legends include Symeon Star-Eyes, whom Luwin dismisses as a fable, and the Bloody Gate of the Vale, where a dozen armies broke themselves against the stoneworks.
