The last king of the Targaryen dynasty, remembered in Westeros as the Mad King.
Aerys II Targaryen was the seventeenth king of his line to sit the Iron Throne, and the last. He came to the crown young, charming and open handed, filled his court with lively men in place of his father's greybeards, and named the young Lord Tywin Lannister his Hand. For a decade the realm was rich and quiet while the king talked of rebuilding King's Landing in marble and making the Titan of Braavos kneel. He was wed to his sister Rhaella, who bore him Rhaegar, Prince of Dragonstone, and later Viserys. Westeros came to know him by another name, the Mad King, and his reign ended in the rebellion led by Robert Baratheon.
