Aegon V Targaryen, fifteenth king of his dynasty to sit the Iron Throne, is better known as the boy called Egg who squires through The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight. He was the fourth and youngest son of Prince Maekar and the youngest grandson of King Daeron II, far enough from the succession that his father was still deciding what to make of him at eight or nine. In 209 AC he went with his eldest brother to the great tourney at Ashford and slipped away from his family to attach himself to a passing hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, giving his name only as Egg. He shaved his head to hide the silver hair of his house, and that bald pate is said to be the source of the name, though it began as a plain shortening of Aegon. Slender but strong and no natural warrior, he was trained at arms by Ser Duncan.
