Aegon III Targaryen

Aegon III Targaryen, called the Dragonbane, was the seventh king of his dynasty to sit the Iron Throne, and Fire and Blood chronicles his early years. He was a son of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and a grandson of King Viserys I, and he was a boy through the Dance of the Dragons, the war fought between his mother and her half-brother Aegon II. What he saw in it marked him for life. He grew sombre, seldom smiled, and dressed in black to the gloves ever after, with a three-headed dragon on a golden chain about his neck. Pale, lean and short-bearded, he took neither of the crowns worn by the rivals of the Dance, choosing a plain golden band instead, and he married his cousin Jaehaera to reconcile the two sides. He had little liking for company save that of his younger brother Viserys, whom he named Hand, and his reign was given chiefly to mending the rift the war had opened.
