The Blood Rite is a week-long trial in the mountains, taken by males seeking to rise from novice to true warrior.
Those who take the Blood Rite enter it unarmed, with magic banned and their wings bound. They carry no supplies and nothing to wear beyond what they have on. A few hundred set out when the week begins, and not all of them come out at its end.
Most try to kill one another, for food or clothing, for vengeance, or for glory between feuding clans. A camp-lord decides who is given the chance to take it.
